Elizabeth is an RN and private duty nurse focused on helping patients feel their best. When she needed care herself, however, her insurance denied coverage for a follow-up breast ultrasound—forcing Elizabeth to consider skipping the test altogether. Luckily, a fellow nurse introduced her to MDsave, and she got the care she needed for 1/5th of the cost! Now, she’s spreading the word to her own patients.
Meet Elizabeth
“I’m in Knoxville, Tennessee. I live about an hour, maybe an hour and a half out from the Smokies. I’m an RN, and I work part-time in a hospital, at
Tennova North Knoxville. I’m also a private duty nurse with little pediatric patients—they’re very sweet! I got my LPN in 2006, and then I went back in 2015 and got my RN, so I've been an RN since 2015 and I love it.”
Finding MDsave
“My insurance now is through my private duty job, and it is not good; that's why I ended up going with MDsave. My insurance paid for the first [
mammogram] that I had done, but they refused the second [procedure]—which is not right! And so I wasn't going to have the follow-up test, which is so important. Then, the nurse at the Mammogram Center called me and suggested MDsave.
I had given up on having the
[breast] ultrasound I needed. I’d said, ‘Well, it is what it is! I’ll just let it go and hope for the best.’ But then the nurse told me about MDsave, so I’ve got her to thank. I had no idea [MDsave] existed.
If it hadn't been for MDsave, I would not have been able to get that ultrasound.”Feels Better Already
“
I didn’t know if I would be eligible to use [MDsave], since I do have insurance (even though my insurance is bad!). I called the number [for
MDsave’s Healthcare Support Team] and the lady on the phone was very helpful. She did really well explaining everything, and she told me that I’d be able to use [MDsave] instead of my insurance.
It gave me peace of mind! I originally would've been paying between $800 and $1,000, but
I paid $147 with MDsave. Everything went so well, so smoothly—not one problem at all. [MDsave] helped me out a lot—it’s awesome.”
Spreading the Word
“In my private duty job, most of the kids I see are on TennCare or some sort of coverage where they don’t need to worry about the costs. In the hospital, though, I see [uninsured patients, and a need for MDsave] a lot. I work the night shift, so those on the day shift really do more of the advising about insurance. But I do run into [patients without coverage] on the night shift every now and then, and I’ll definitely recommend [MDsave] to them. It’s an awesome service; if I personally ever have to have another procedure or screening done, I’ll be using MDsave.”
