Emily E. Cannon, M.D., FACS, is the newest partner of Wiregrass Surgical and the first and only female general surgeon in Dothan, Alabama. A native of Enterprise, Alabama, she received her undergraduate degree magna cum laude in Biology from the University of Alabama in 2003. In 2008 she graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with her medical degree. Dr. Cannon then completed her internship and residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She was awarded the distinction of “Outstanding Resident Role Model” by the UAB medical students.
Patient care is Dr. Cannon’s primary concern. She is a compassionate surgeon and strives to always do what is best for every patient. She enjoys the broad scope of her practice including, but not limited to, breast cancer surgery, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, weight loss surgery, as well as endoscopic procedures.
Dr. Cannon is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is currently an active member of the Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She serves as the Young Surgeons Representative for the Alabama Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. She is also a member of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Houston County Medical Society. She is affiliated with both Flowers Hospital and Dothan Surgery Center.
Dr. Cannon and her husband, Dr. Scott Falconer, met during residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who also serves the Wiregrass. In her free time, Dr. Cannon enjoys going to the beach, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.
