Giselle Aerni, MD, grew up as a three-sport athlete playing soccer, basketball, and softball, before getting into Taekwon-do in high school and competing in the Junior Olympics. Dr. Aerni went to Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA where she played NCAA Division III Lacrosse and captained her senior year. From there she went to the University of Pittsburgh for medical school and realized she loved the mix of keeping people healthy and active through sports. Dr. Aerni completed her Family Medicine residency in Pittsburgh at UPMC St. Margaret and her Sports Medicine fellowship at UConn.

Prior to OSS, Dr. Aerni has been the head team physician at UConn and Yale, as well as a team physician for the WNBA Connecticut Sun, Gettysburg College, and many high schools. She has also been the fellowship director at two primary care sports medicine fellowships, helping to train the next generation of primary care sports medicine physicians.

Dr. Aerni is honored to work with all ages and all levels of athletes and active individuals. She enjoys helping her athletes perform at their best by considering a holistic approach to their care. With her teaching background, it’s important to Dr. Aerni to empower her patients by helping them understand their diagnoses and treatment plans. She has a special interest in using ultrasound-guided procedures when appropriate to order to help her patients through a minimally invasive approach.

In her leisure time, she enjoys reading, working out and being active, container gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.
