J.W. Ground, D.O., received his medical education at Oklahoma State University. He completed his general surgery residency at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, where he received the academic achievement award 5 years in a row for scoring at or above the 98th percentile on the nationwide training exam. Dr. Ground was also the recipient of an outstanding resident award called the Golden Scalpel that was given out by Rowan University’s faculty surgeons.
Dr. Ground’s training focused heavily on laparoscopic and robotic surgery, including many advanced procedures involving the GI tract, gallbladders, colons and hernias. He has extended experience with minimally invasive surgery, including robotics, and does minimally invasive procedures when feasible.
After 5 years of training on the East coast, Dr. Ground and his wife were eager to return to their home state of Oklahoma to be closer to family as they raise their growing household. He is passionate about closing the healthcare gap for rural communities and is excited about the opportunity to begin his practice in Ponca City.
