Procedure Details

This includes a hernia repair for the following types epigastric, incisional, ventral, umbilical, spigelian, inguinal or femoral. A hernia is when an organ or tissue pushes through an abnormal opening. This includes the insertion of mesh.     operating and recovery room services & supplies for outpatient stay (less than 24 hours) at LDS Hospital
  • Physician fee
    treatment and procedure-related postoperative follow-up visit(s) within 90 days of surgery for all hernia repair types except abdominal hernias. Abdominal hernia repairs do not have a covered postoperative period. Does NOT include the initial evaluation to determine the need of the procedure.
  • Anesthesiologist fee
    regional or general anesthesia for the entire duration of the procedure
  • Pathology fee
    DOES NOT INCLUDE A PATHOLOGY FEE. The patient may receive a bill for this portion.
  • Tendo Marketplace fee
    Covers the cost of contracting upfront rates with all involved medical providers, processing payment, and distributing funds, minimizing administrative overhead and allowing for a lower total price

About David Morrell, MD
David Morrell, MD
Dr. David Morrell is a fellowship-trained general surgeon specializing in complex abdominal wall reconstruction. He provides the full spectrum of routine and complex hernia treatment including robotic and laparoscopic repairs, component separation, non-mesh hernia repairs, diastasis rectus management, and sports hernia management.
In addition to complex hernias and abdominal wall reconstruction, his clinical interests include surgical endoscopy. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in these areas.
A Utah native, he specialized in complex abdominal wall reconstruction at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center fellowship in advanced abdominal wall surgery. Prior to fellowship, he studied physiology and developmental biology at Brigham Young University before earning his medical degree from The Ohio State University. He completed his general surgery residency at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he also earned a Master of Public Health Sciences and received the Resident Humanitarian Award.
Now back in Utah, Dr. Morrell is excited to advance complex hernia care in his home state. He lives with his wife and three children and speaks Spanish and Papiamento.
