Dr. Brunz is a South Dakota native and a fellowship-trained pain medicine physician who provides non-surgical musculoskeletal care to patients for whom surgery is not the best option or has failed to relieve symptoms adequately. He works closely with the surgeons at OI to provide comprehensive musculoskeletal care. He had over twenty years of experience specializing in the treatment of neuropathy, joint, neck, and back-related pain, and spinal cord and DRG stimulator implants. In addition, his practice provides interventional pain services for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
Dr. Brunz is first and only physician in the region who is recognized as an Intracept® Center of Excellence physician, a designation awarded to clinicians who demonstrate exceptional proficiency, commitment to best practices, and consistently strong outcomes with the procedure. This recognition places him among a select group of physicians nationally who have reached the highest standards in the treatment of vertebrogenic pain through basivertebral nerve ablation.
Dr. Brunz has been selected as a Key Opinion Leader for St. Jude Medical in the field of neuromodulation. This is a select group of physicians who are chosen because of their expertise in the field of neuromodulation, also know as spinal cord stimulation. Spinal cord stimulation is a unique long-term drug-free therapy that utilizes electrical pulses from an implanted catheter that blocks pain signals
When not at work, Dr. Brunz enjoys spending time outdoors, fishing, hiking and relaxing at the lake with his wife, Michelle, and four children. He and his family are avid collegiate sports fans cheering on the Jayhawks, Huskers and Hawkeys. Over the years, he has been involved in coaching youth athletics, including wrestling and baseball. As a Augustana wrestling alumni, Dr Brunz cheers on and supports the Augustana University wrestling team.
