Dr. Paynter is a Georgia boy, and has lived in Georgia his entire life. He grew up near Dalton, Georgia and then attended the University of Georgia. From there, he moved to Augusta, Georgia for the next 9 years, which encompassed his time in both medical school and orthopedic surgical residency at the Medical College of Georgia. He graduated from MCG as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He then attended a fellowship in adult total joint reconstruction at Northside Hospital outside of Atlanta.
During his time in medical school, he discovered his passion for orthopedic surgery and treating the ailments of the musculoskeletal system. While in residency, his focus narrowed to a passion in joint replacement surgery due to the powerful, life-altering effects these procedures can have on people. His fellowship provided him extra, in-depth training in joint replacement surgery, including efficient joint replacements, partial joint replacements, and treating failed joint replacements. He performed over 900 cases in fellowship at a high volume center and is comfortable with any manner of joint replacement surgery or revision surgery.
Dr. Paynter is an avid UGA fan, and grew up rooting for the Dawgs from a young age, attending games with his family. He has multiple family members that have attended UGA. Most importantly, he met his wife during his freshman year on a mission trip to Jamaica. They married the month after graduating from UGA together, and they now have three young, wonderful, rambunctious sons who keep Mrs. Paynter on her toes at all times. In fact, Mrs. Paynter is most delighted that her husband chose orthopedic surgery as a career to save time spent at the doctor’s office when her children inevitably get injured from sports activities or back yard wrestling.
To relax and take stress off, Dr. Paynter enjoys spending time with his family, especially his sons. He enjoys watching college football, reading, golf, fishing, and going to the beach. He looks forward to attending many football, basketball, and baseball games at Georgia Southern as well.
