Martin "Marty" Asplund, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon at Intermountain Health's American Fork Clinic. He supports patients and their families in American Fork, Lehi, and other surrounding cities, treating conditions including care in hernia surgery, skin and melanoma treatment, reflux and hiatal hernia management, and colon and rectal surgery. His approach to patient care is rooted in teamwork. He recognizes that every patient is unique and tailors treatment to meet individual needs. He speaks English and Spanish, which allows him to connect with a broader patient population.
Dr. Asplund believes in a patient-centered approach, working collaboratively to find the best treatment for each individual. He is guided by Sir William Osler's words of wisdom: "The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease." He's also inspired by the Osler quote: "Care more for the individual patient than for the special features of the disease. Put yourself in his place."
Dr. Asplund is passionate about minimally invasive and robotic colon surgery. He finds these procedures rewarding due to their complexity and the rapid recovery they offer patients.
Outside of his surgical practice, the Wausau, WI, native enjoys spending time outdoors. He embraces an active lifestyle, whether backcountry skiing, gravel biking, hiking, or playing soccer with his family.
