Procedure Details

This includes a duodenal switch, also known as biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch. This is a bariatric procedure for weight loss that involves removing part of the stomach and part of the small intestine.
You must participate in a mandatory education program prior to surgery.

  • Facility fee
    operating and recovery room services & supplies for a normal inpatient stay (average 1 to 2 days) which will be determined by your physician at LDS Hospital
  • Physician fee
    treatment and procedure-related postoperative follow-up visit(s) within 90 days of surgery. Does NOT include the initial evaluation to determine the need of the procedure.
  • Anesthesiologist fee
    regional or general anesthesia for the entire duration of the procedure
  • Pathology fee
    DOES NOT INCLUDE A PATHOLOGY FEE. The patient may receive a bill for this portion.
  • Hospitalist fee
    DOES NOT INCLUDE THE HOSPITALIST FEE. Hospitals often contract with hospitalist groups who provide care to patients if the primary care physician becomes unavailable. If your situation requires hospitalist services, you will receive a bill from the hospitalist group.
  • Tendo Marketplace fee
    Covers the cost of contracting upfront rates with all involved medical providers, processing payment, and distributing funds, minimizing administrative overhead and allowing for a lower total price

Nicholas J. Paulk, MD, FACS
Dr. Nicholas Paulk is a native to Salt Lake City where he attended the University of Utah for his undergraduate degree in Biology. He then went to OHSU in Portland Oregon for medical school and proceeded to Exempla St. Joseph’s for general surgery residency in Denver Colorado. He returned to Salt Lake in 2011 to practice General Surgery with emphasis on advanced laparoscopy and robotic surgery. He joined Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians in order to pursue bariatric surgery in addition to advanced laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery. Dr. Paulk is board certified in general surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgery.
