Originally from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Dr. Richard Duncan received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1988. After completing a five-year orthopaedic surgical residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, he completed a one-year spine fellowship at Baylor Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
As a board-certified orthopaedic spine surgeon, Dr. Duncan is committed exclusively to spine care. He has been practicing spine surgery at Watauga Orthopaedics since 1994. With a special interest in minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Duncan was the first physician in the Tri-Cities to perform outpatient spinal surgery. He is also a certified physician of the back pain recognition program recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
