Sleep Apnea, a disorder affecting nearly 2.5 million Americans, is the most commonly diagnosed sleep disorder. Sleep apnea occurs as a result of upper airway obstruction during breathing and results in a drop in blood oxygen and increases in blood pressure and heart rate. The disorder is complicated by an increase in the incidence of coronary artery disease, hypertension, congestive heart failure and stroke. The most common treatment for sleep apnea is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, or CPAP.
