Dr. Alan Aiken returns to practice in his hometown of Johnson City, TN. He graduated from Science Hill High School as an Academic All-American wrestler, with hopes of pursuing a career in orthopedics like his father. In 2007, he received his undergraduate degree in sports medicine from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. He spent the following three years working with Ski Patrol as an EMT at Keystone Mountain in Colorado and Mount Hotham in Australia. He then attended DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine at Lincoln Memorial University, graduating in 2014. He completed his orthopaedic surgery training at East Tennessee State University, followed by a sports medicine fellowship in Jackson, MS, adding to his skills and expertise in this area. He is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Aiken's advanced training in sports medicine allows him to perform arthroscopic and open procedures of the knee and shoulder. He has a special interest in total joint replacements of the hip (anterior approach), knee (manual and robotic), as well as cartilage preservation procedures of the knee, including Osteochondral Allograft procedures and MACI procedures. He also performs general orthopaedic procedures of all extremities, including fracture care. He performs in-office procedures including carpal tunnel surgery, trigger finger releases, and simple cyst excisions. He enjoys caring for patients of all ages. Growing up in East Tennessee, Dr. Aiken has a love for being outdoors. He prefers to spend his free time on a lake, the ski slopes, and with his family. He enjoys mountain biking and pickleball. Dr. Aiken's interest in global health has taken him overseas on mission trips to Haiti and Trinidad, as well as to Mongolia for orthopaedic work. Dr. Aiken and his wife, Chelsea, have two sons, Hudson and Wells, and a SpringerDoodle named Teddy. They have happily planted roots in East Tennessee and are thankful to call this area home.
