A life-long Hoosier, Dale A. Sloan, MD, FACS, joined Lutheran Medical Group in July 2013. Previously, he was a member of Indiana Surgical Specialists. Dr. Sloan is trained in bariatric surgery, advanced laparoscopic techniques and endocrine surgery, including parathyroid and thyroid procedures.
Dr. Sloan earned a bachelor's degree at Indiana Wesleyan University in 1975 and a medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis in 1979. He completed a surgical internship and residency at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Dr. Sloan, who has been a practicing surgeon in Fort Wayne since 1984, is board certified in surgery and started the Lutheran bariatric surgery program in 2005. Over the years, Dr. Sloan has been featured in various publications, including "The American Surgeon," "Contemporary Surgery" and "The Journal of the Indiana State Medical Society," and he has frequently been recognized as a "Top Doc" in Fort Wayne, an acknowledgment bestowed by his peers. In 2004, he received "Top Gun" honors by taking first place in the laparoscopic skills competition at the American College of Surgeons' annual meeting.
Dr. Sloan, who is an Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor, co-leads a surgical missions' team to the Dominican Republic each year. He is a fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Indiana State Medical Association, the Fort Wayne Surgical Society and the Fort Wayne Medical Society.
